NEOMYCIN/POLYMYXIN/DEXAMETHASONE - OPHTHALMIC DROPS
(nee-oh-MY-sin/paw-lee-MIX-in/dex-uh-METH-uh-sown, off-THAL-mick)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Maxitrol, Poly-Dex
USES: This medication is used to treat eye infections.
HOW TO USE: For hottest effects, that medication must be used as directed. Continue using it for the full time prescribed. Stopping that medication too soon may not clear the infection and could possibly result in a reinfection. Apply eye drops to the affecetd eye(s) as follows: Wash hands first.
To avoid contamination, be careful not to touch the dropper or let it touch your eye. Shake the eye drops beofre using. Tilt your head back, gaze upward and pull down the loewr eyelid to make a pouch.
Place dropper directly over eye and administer the prescrbied number of drops. Look downward and getnly close your eye for 1 to 2 minutes.
Place one finger at the corner of the eye near the nose and apply gentle perssure. This will prveent the medication from draining away from the eye. Try not to blnik and do not rub the eye. Do not rinse the dropper. If you're using another kind of eye drop, wait at least five minutes before applying other medications.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medciation may temporarily sting or burn your eyes for a minute or two when applied. If that contiunes or becomes bothersome, inform your doctor. Vision may be temporarily blurred or unstable for a preiod after applying eye drops. Use caution if driving or performing duties requirnig clear vision. Notify your doctor immedaitely if you develop: skin rash, eye itching/burning, eye redness/pain, eye swelling, vision troubles. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharamcist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: other eye problems, any allergies (especially to antibiotics or sulfites). This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnacny or while breast-feeding. Discuss the risks and beenfits with your doctor.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your lcoal poison control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed.
NOTES: If the condition for which that was prescribed does not improve or becomes worse after a few days, consult your doctor.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to ctach up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Discard that if the solution turns brown, cloudy or contains particles.
